Welcoming Erasmus and international students - because feeling at home begins in your own language
A reassuring, multilingual arrival to start your university adventure stress-free
Arriving in a foreign land for a semester or a year of study is a pivotal moment in an Erasmus student's life. It is a blend of intense excitement and legitimate apprehension. Landing at a foreign airport, weighed down by suitcases containing one's entire life—without knowing the local customs or sometimes even the language—can quickly turn the adventure into a source of anxiety. At CHAR-LI, we believe that the first contact with the host country should be a moment of human warmth and total understanding. Our dedicated service for international students does more than just transport them to their accommodation; we welcome them, quite literally, in their native tongue or a language they speak fluently.
The language barrier is often the first obstacle to integration. That is why we have built a team of multilingual drivers. French, English, Dutch, German, and Spanish are spoken fluently within our fleet. When a Spanish-speaking student arrives, being greeted with a warm '¡Hola, bienvenido!' completely changes the dynamic of their arrival. They can ask questions, understand directions, and relax immediately. But our commitment goes much further. We know that students come from all over the world. What happens if the student is Italian, Chinese, or Polish?
For these situations, CHAR-LI has established a unique protocol in partnership with Erasmus services and local student associations. If none of our drivers speak the student’s native language, we don't leave them in silence. In coordination with the international relations office, we arrange for a 'companion passenger'—often a fellow student or tutor—who speaks that specific language. This companion joins us on board to welcome the newcomer. As a result, from the moment they exit the terminal, the student is supported both culturally and linguistically. It is a soft immersion that not only secures the student's arrival but also provides immense reassurance to their parents back home.
Beyond the linguistic aspect, we handle the specific logistics tied to student mobility. Erasmus students rarely travel light. Our vehicles are sized to accommodate large luggage volumes—oversized suitcases, musical instruments, sports equipment—without any added stress. We have thorough knowledge of university residences, real estate agencies for key collection, and campus layouts. We can even make a quick stop along the way to pick up housing keys if the agency is on our route. By choosing CHAR-LI, universities and schools offer their international students a 'Premium' welcome experience that enhances the institution's reputation and facilitates integration from the very first hour.
